Emily Abel

Keeping Us Safe is pleased to announce that Ms. Emily Abel of Indianapolis, Indiana has joined us by accepting the position of Director of Outreach and Training.

In this capacity, Emily will be developing and implementing initiatives designed to make the “Beyond Driving with Dignity” program easily accessible to families and professionals in every community across the Country.

Ms. Abel began working as an assistive technology specialist in 1988 and has worked with individuals of all ages and abilities. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in electronics and computer technology from Indiana State University, with a minor in biomedical electronics. Emily holds a Masters in Gerontology from the University of Indianapolis. The focus of her Capstone Project was Gerontechnology.

Emily has over twenty year’s experience providing assistive technology education, evaluation and recommendations, as well as training to individuals of all ages and abilities. She is a Certified Assistive Technology Professional (Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America (RESNA). Within the last two years she has focused her experience, education and enthusiasm on technologies to enable independence and aging-in-place for seniors.

Emily currently serves as the Board Vice President at the accessABILITY Center for Independent Living, and has previously served as a consultant to the Indiana Business Leadership Network.

Emily and her partner reside in Indianapolis, sharing the same neighborhood with her daughter, son-in-law and four grandchildren. Emily volunteers on a regular basis with two non-profit agencies and with the Special Olympics. She enjoys photography, camping, music, dance, gardening and spending time with her family and friends.

Emily also owns and manages Technology for Life Transitions. Her company assists aging adults and their caregivers with unique technology options designed to improve independence and caregiver support.
