PARKINSON'S DISEASE AND DRIVING
Driving involves a number of activities, including perception, information processing, judgment, decision-making, coordinated limb movements, reaction-time tasks, continuous tracking, and attention. Parkinson's disease causes a number of abnormalities in these areas.
Many people believe a Parkinson's diagnosis means they will have to give up driving, however
that isn't necessarily true. Each case of Parkinson's is different and the disease follows a
unique course in every individual.
Driving is not safe in the advanced stages of Parkinson's, and a definite link has been established between the likelihood of being involved in an accident to the progression of the disease. However, patients with milder symptoms who can control their impaired motor abilities may often times be
able to continue driving.
Our program is designed to help you maintain the independence
you've come to enjoy by being able to drive safely.
